Foundational Principles of Health - Water
Water is an excellent source of energy without the calories. Drinking adequate amounts can improve alertness, help with constipation, control hunger, and facilitate detoxification.
Drinking plenty of water is the surest way to cleanse your body of toxins. Your lymph system requires adequate water for proper waste removal. All it takes is a 1% loss of water to affect health and metabolism. In addition, chronic dehydration can lead to high blood pressure, joint pain, and cloudy thinking. Some guidelines to consider:
Drink ½ your body weight in ounces daily.
Drink 20 minutes before you eat.
During your meal, drink only what you need. Water will dilute hydrochloric acid, which can negatively impact digestion.
Avoid ice-water when exercising. Cold water can take longer to absorb and with some people cause stomach discomfort.
Drink water that is BPA free without fluoride and chlorine.
It gets hot here in the Turks and Caicos Islands and dehydration happens fast. Find that special water bottle (preferably non-plastic) and drink even when you’re not thirsty.
